The ATH-MSR7NC headphones combine the Hi-Res Audio technology and design features from the original ATH-MSR7 with newly developed active-noise cancelling technology to bring you the ultimate listening experience.
These headphones are outfitted with exclusive 45 mm True Motion Drivers to deliver distortion-free audio reproduction with extended frequency response. A miniature microphone is incorporated into the top of each earcup to pick up ambient noise that can then be blocked by an appropriate sound-cancelling signal when the active noise-cancelling function is activated. Having the microphone on the top, instead of on the side, of the housing ensures consistent noise cancellation unaffected by the user’s head movement or by wind noise. Each earcup also has an acoustic vent, ideally positioned on the side of the housing, 90 degrees from mic, to enhance tuning without negatively affecting sound quality. The result is consistent Hi-Res Audio reproduction whether in active or passive noise-cancelling modes.
The ATH-MSR7NC’s highly flexible swivel design, along with its soft, memory foam earpads and headband, ensure lasting comfort even during the longest listening sessions. The headphones also come with two detachable cables: 1.2 m (3.9′) standard cable and a 1.2 m (3.9′) cable with in-line controls and microphone for use with smartphones. An internal 3.7V lithium polymer battery powers the active noise-cancelling function and can easily be recharged using the included USB charging cable.
About High-Resolution Audio
In Brief: The Move to Hi-Res Audio
While many listeners may believe that high-resolution audio came along with the introduction of the Compact Disc in 1982, constraints on the disc’s storage space always prevented CD audio (standardized at 44.1 kHz/16-bit) from fully and completely reproducing the original recorded sound. The advent and subsequent popularity of MP3s only made this problem more pronounced – the necessary compression of these files causes audio information to be lost, thus greatly reducing the audio quality. But with lossless audio file formats, faster Internet speeds, and storage space increasingly easy to come by (and in ever-smaller packages), the push is on to create audio equipment capable of capturing and reproducing true Hi-Res Audio, generally considered to be 96 kHz/24-bit or better. The Hi-Res Audio logo certifies that a product meets the Hi-Res Audio standards. Per these standards, headphones must have transducer frequency performance to at least 40 kHz. The Audio-Technica MSR7NC are decent mixed usage headphones. They aren’t ideal for commuting despite being noise cancelling headphones, and they may be a bit too bulky for sports. On the upside, they have a neutral sound, a great build quality, and a polished design.

Neutral Sound
The Audio-Technica MSR7NC are good for neutral sound. They’re comfortable enough to wear for hours and have a well-balanced sound profile. Their bass extends into the lower frequencies, which gives a good kick without being overpowering, so you can still clearly distinguish instruments and vocals. However, there’s a slight bump in the high-mid/low-treble that may push instruments a bit too forward on some tracks, which could sound a bit harsh.

The Audio-Technica MSR7NC are mediocre for commuting. They have a comfortable fit but a mediocre control scheme and a subpar noise cancellation performance. They may be able to mask some noise if you’re playing your audio at high volumes, but they won’t be the ideal headphones for loud environments.

Коробка черная с синим оттенком выглядит скромно — нет здесь пластиковых или деревянных кейсов, но покупаем мы не коробку, а то, что внутри. А там за шелковистой тканью не только сами наушники, которые пока отложим в сторону, но и коробка с аксессуарами прямо под ними.
В комплекте три кабеля — обычный длиной 1,2 м и еще один с пультом гарнитуры. Еще один проводок USB — micro-USB служит для зарядки аккумулятора системы шумоподавления. Ну и, конечно, фирменный кожаный чехол никуда не делся. Хотелось бы, наверное, еще переходник с 3,5 мм на 6,3 мм, однако производитель, похоже, позиционирует наушники больше для портативной техники.
А вот самолетный адаптер в комплект все же положил — видимо, активное шумоподавление обязывает. Мол, летайте, проверяйте, мы не боимся.
Звук
Про плотные «низы» и яркие средние частоты рассказывать не будем — восприятие звука штука сугубо индивидуальная, и то, что для одного покажется «глубоким» басом, другой может не оценить. Как говорят, не надо искать скрипача в третьем ряду, если там сидят только клавишники. Ограничимся тем, что вокал — сильная сторона ATH-MSR7NC, спорить с этим бессмысленно. А звук эти наушники выдают далеко не на 18-20 тысяч рублей (да, выдадим наконец-то их цену), а на все 50, как с 16 бит/44,1 кГЦ, так и в Hi-Res 24 бита/96-192 кГц. Благо сравнить есть с чем.
Намного интереснее поговорить о системе шумоподавления. Как утверждает сам производитель, в активном режиме чувствительность наушников увеличивается с 97 до 104 дБ, по факту рост не столь значительный. Главное, чего боишься при наличии системы шумоподавления — что она может вызвать гармонические и частотные искажения. Здесь этого нет. Со своими задачами справляется отлично, причем на улице даже пассивный барьер показывает себя с наилучшей стороны. В метро спускаться с этими наушниками можно, но не слишком часто, дабы не испортить свое впечатление. Что касается использования в повседневных шумных условиях (дома около телевизора, в опенспейсе, в кафе за ноутбуком), активная система становится той вишенкой на торте, которой не хватало MSR7.
Еще лучше за нас все скажут графики — вот, например, ачх при активной и пассивной системе шумоподавления.

Пассивная Можно было ограничиться прослушиванием наушников на макбуке, айфоне и Cowon PLENUE S (обзор в блоге на Geektimes), но решили пойти дальше — подключили к цифровому роялю KURZWEIL MPG-200. Кто-то скажет «ерунда, круче классики ничего нет», но это с какой стороны посмотреть. Раздобыли переходник на 6,3 мм (у каждого аудиофила есть как минимум два в заначке), и понеслась.
«Испанские фолии» Скарлатти проигрывались в течение часа, и каждый раз было удивительно, как наушники могут выдавать такой звук. Если раньше наушники подключались к пианино только по вечерам, чтобы соседей не разбудить, то сейчас на ушах постоянно. Удивительно, но нашлась достойная замена встроенной 200-ваттной стереосистеме с четырьмя динамиками.
Вернемся в реальность
Поговорим о совместимости, информация о которой может быть полезна большинству. Пусть вас не обольщает кабель с гарнитурой в комплекте — с планшетами и смартфонами наушники, конечно, использовать можно, но есть и другие более интересные кейсы. Хотя вначале мы посетовали на отсутствие переходника на 6,3 мм, современные плееры без проблем работают с 3,5 мм разъемом, а эта модель достойна не просто плеера, а устройства топового сегмента (ну и не самого бюджетного ЦАПа). Наушники очень чувствительны к качеству треков, можно не полениться, загрузить парочку в lossless и убедиться самим.
Что касается стилей музыки, то здесь подойдет все — и хип-хоп, и джаз, и живая музыка.

По сравнению с MSR7 драйвер не изменился — все тот же Hi-Res Audio с диаметром диафрагмы 45 мм с маркетинговым названием True Motion. Конструкция имеет демпфирующие вставки, звуковая катушка облегченная, за счет чего излучатель мгновенно распознает изменение напряжения. Отсюда имеем ровную частотную характеристику.
Система активного шумоподавления здесь заслуживает отдельного внимания. Почему она здесь — понятно, какой же Hi-Res полностью раскроется без подавления шумов. Работу системы обеспечивают два микрофона, оба находятся снаружи чашек. Активное шумоподавление достигается накладыванием улавливаемого микрофона шума в противофазе на музыкальный сигнал. Обычно микрофон располагают внутри чашек — таким образом устраняются шумы, которые не сдержал пассивный барьер, или по два микрофона на канал (один внутри, другой снаружи). У героя сегодняшнего обзора микрофоны только снаружи: не совсем понятно, в чем конкретное преимущество подобного решения. В методичках маркетологов говорится о фирменных запатентованных технологиях и улавливании шумов со всех направлений. Ниже расскажем, так ли это на самом деле.
Для работы активного шумоподавления используется встроенный аккумулятор, способный проработать до 30 часов от одной зарядки. Нам удалось достичь 28 часов, что, впрочем, тоже очень неплохо. На зарядку при помощи кабеля USB — micro-USB уходит около четырех часов.
Итоги
Модель ATH-MSR7 от Audio-Technica является одной из лучших в своем классе. Зарекомендовав себя как устройство с гармоничным звучанием и высоким качеством сборки, наушники подойдут для каждого фаната музыки, желающего наслаждаться музыкой без всякой «отсебятины» со стороны девайса. Благодаря низкоомности их легко использовать как с HI-FI плеерами, так и обычными смартфонами. Но для получения качественного звучания, желательно использовать устройства со встроенным ЦАП.
